Itchy Scalp Shampoo

Often going hand in hand with dandruff, an itchy scalp can exist by itself.

Problem: Your scalp feels incredibly itchy without relief

Solution: Try, one at a time, different shampoos to rule out allergy and then indentify cause

Possible causes:

1. Allergy to normal shampoos. Try gentle and non-SLS (sodium laureth sulfate) products.

2. Using a body or shower gel as a shampoo. These are too drying for the scalp.

3. Not washing out shampoo properly. When rinsing hair allow the water to run off the hair into your cupped hand. If it bubbles with lather then you need to rinse a bit more.

4. Irritating conditioner. Avoid applying onto the scalp, just put on the lower 2/3rds of the hair.

5. Headlice. Stand over a sink and comb your hair with a fine comb to check if you have them, or ask a good friend/family member to check for you.

6. Styling products. Avoid applying them to the roots of the hair. Avoid hairspray.

7. Eczema or psoriasis. Choose very gentle shampoos without SLS, from health food shops.
