Dandruff Shampoo

Problem: Scalp is flaking excessively and shows up on dark clothing.

Solution: Identify the culprit and eliminate it.

Culprits can be:

1. Changing to a hard or soft water area which doesn’t agree with your usual shampoo.

2. Using a shampoo that is too harsh for your scalp

3. Not massaging your scalp correctly during shampooing. Apply shampoo first to the bulk of the hair, rinse, now apply to the roots only and massage firmly with your fingertips all over for 2-3 minutes before rinsing.

4. Not using enough shampoo! Forgot articles that claim you only need a small drop, you should use however much is needed for YOUR hair.

5. Infection that is not cleared up with the above steps. Use a medicated shampoo.

6. Using styling products that irritate the scalp. Change your brand or find a hairstyle that does not require so many products.

Recommended shampoos:

Good old Head and Shoulders, Baby Shampoo, non-detergent shampoos (look for labels that say SLS-free such as in health food shops) Nizoral.

If a new shampoo doesn’t work, keep looking until you find one that does.

Nothing works? Visit your doctor for prescription preparations, and to check it is not a skin problem.
